In the designer handbag industry of today Prada, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Coach purses are the epitome of luxury and style. The House of Prada has been in existence for almost one hundred years and is a pioneer in elegant, simple high-fashion purses and handbags. The Prada label was founded in 1913 by Mario Prada. He first began by selling shoes, trunks, and leather handbags and almost instantly was widely recognized with success in the United States and in Europe. Later, Prada opened two boutiques in Milan, Italy.

The very early suitcases that were made by Prada were composed of heavy walrus skin and did not do well for air travel. Therefore, Prada began concentrating on fine leather handbags as well as accessories. New materials were incorporated such as tortoise shell, crystal and wood. In the U.S. markets, waterproof garments were sold as well. No matter how successful Prada was, the company began to decline in the 1970’s. There would soon be a new age in the history of Prada.

The granddaughter of Mario Prada, Miuccia Prada, took the company over in 1978. She had spent five years studying in Milan at the Teatro Piccolo where she earned a doctorate in political science. Miuccia had an inborn ability to recognize good fashion and she steered the Prada name into the world of the elite fashion designers. Miuccia began to make backpacks and luxury tote bags out of sleek black nylon material.

At about the same time she married Patrizio Bertelli who took over the role of business manager. This allowed Miuccia to focus on perfecting the designs of the new Prada image and look. The Pocone handbag that was introduced in 1985 became an overnight success and launched the Prada name deeper into the spotlight. Although the Pocone was practical and well-made, it was also very high fashion and was a bit on the pricey side. The industry of fashion replicas took off, and more and more women wanted to own an authentic Prada purse.

Prada has now become a worldwide empire and is regarded as the first name in designer handbags. There are Prada stores in just about every country here in the western world. What better way to get free advertising than to have celebrities carry around Prada handbags? The Prada look has evolved and diversified through the years and it is with profound thanks to Miuccia that she has steered Prada in the right direction while all the while maintaining the highest quality.

If you are looking to find an authentic Prada purse or handbag, there are several sites on the Internet that you may want to try. However, you must realize that Prada purses do not come cheap. I hope you have allowed room in your budget if you really have to have one. q The leather handbags begin with a price tag of just above $1,000 and can balloon all the way past $2,000. Some of the nylon handbags are a little more reasonably priced and begin at around $700. They can easily run up to $1,500. Just remember, you are buying quality and the Prada name.

For a working mom, their “work” day never really ends. They may go to work from 9-5 and come home, but they come home to more work. They have a family to feed and take care of and a house to keep in order. They never really have a chance to leave their work stress at the door when they come home to their family.

Since they’re constantly on the go, they find it hard to balance their work life with their family life. When the line between work and home can’t be seen, stress from one has free reign to the other. They start to realize that they don’t know if they’re coming or going anymore.

There are two types of working moms. Those that work outside of the home and those who work inside their home. Those that work outside the home tend to have more socializing opportunities, but they have less time for meeting the needs of their family.

The moms who work from their home tend to have more flexibility with their time, but they face long hours of isolation or having only children for company. They desire some adult conversation to keep them sane. Here are some tips to both types of working moms reduce stress, so they can get their life back:

Exercise- Exercise is not only good for your body, but also for your mind. It can be a good stress reliever. Try to work in some time into your work week for exercise. It helps to raise your heart rate which promotes good blood circulation and makes you feel good. It can also give you some alone time or time with a friend to chat about adult topics instead of things that interest children.

Recruit others for help-Utilize your friends and family to help you out. They can help you with babysitting, cleaning, organizing, painting or whatever you need. The extra hands can enable you to go out, get the house cleaned, or even just to take a much needed nap. The person, who said that it takes a village to raise a child, knew what they were talking about. Use others to your advantage. Get your children involved as well, in activities like cleaning to take some of the load off you.

Hire out for certain jobs. In some cases, your friends and family aren’t able to help you, so don’t be afraid to hire someone to help you out. It’s better to fork over a little money to a maid service or a babysitter than to drive yourself crazy with the added stress. The costs will be low, since you’ll use these services once in awhile versus all the time.

Establish work times-If you work outside of the home, then make sure your work doesn’t come with you to stay. If you’re off at 5, then stop your working gears and start your family gears until it’s time to go back to work. If you work at home, be sure to set your work times and stick to them. During work hours, your mind should be on work. Afterwards, your mind should be with your family.

Working part time- If the stress of working full time becomes too much for you to handle with the family life then consider cutting back to part time. Check your family’s budget and see if cuts can be made to allow you to cut your working hours. The stress of working too many hours while juggling home life isn’t worth your sanity if you can’t get extra help.

Working moms bring added income to the family, which is nice, but stress can make it seem not worth your time. Learning to reduce stress can help you keep your family life and work life in sync. A good balance of both in your life can make for a happier you.

Being a working mom can be extremely rewarding, but it’s challenging. Get the help you need with Real Life Guidance to Balancing Work and Family It’s your practical guide to tracking your time, setting priorities, learning to say no and achieving that balance you strive for.

Oily Skin Makeup Tips

Wearing makeup when you have oily skin can be troubling at times. I know because I have extremely oily skin myself, so I’m constantly looking in the mirror every couple of hours to see if my nose is glaring. I’ve asked my dermatologist if there is anything he could prescribe to suppress the production of oil, and unfortunately his response was “no”. He did point out that I will still look great at 50 years old, which does help the situation.

Over the years I’ve learned how to cope with some very useful products and tips that I’m sure will benefit you as well:

1. Blot powder – This is a wonderful product that I carry around with me everyday in my purse. It comes in a compact with a powder puff, similar to sheer powder. Instead of touching up with more makeup or sheer powder, I use blot powder. It’s translucent, so I can get rid of the oiliness without caking more makeup onto my face. Another advantage is that my makeup lasts longer because I’m not reapplying it throughout the day.

2. Blotting papers – These can be found anywhere – from beauty supply stores to cosmetic counters. These are small oil-absorbing sheets of paper that come in a small package that you can easily carry around with you throughout the day. All you have to do is dab the oily areas of your face – typically the forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin. The papers will absorb the oil without leaving a powdery substance on your face or removing your makeup.

3. Oil-control lotion – You can purchase this at almost any cosmetic counter. It’s very easy to apply and you can wear it under your makeup. Just dab a little on the oily areas of your face and blend outward. It controls shine and provides a matte finish. Most oil-control lotions work really well, but you may have to decrease the use if you find that your skin gets dry and starts flaking.

4. Facial Tissue – When all else fails, grab a sheet of tissue paper! Besides using a blot powder, facial tissue is another product that I use throughout the day as well. Most are 2-ply, but it works better if you separate them and use 1-ply. They’re almost as useful as the blotting papers, and a lot cheaper too! Try to avoid buying ones that have fragrance or color because it may irritate your skin and cause breakouts.

5. Cleanser/Moisturizer – Neither of these will absorb oil or block out the production, but they should be part of your everyday skincare routine. Always opt for a cleanser that is oil-free, and there are some great ones that are specifically made for oily skin. Your moisturizer should be water based with SPF15 or greater and be labeled as “noncomedogenic”. Your cleansing and moisturizing routine should be implemented morning and night to avoid clogging pores.

6. Foundation makeup – Should be labeled “oil free” to prevent adding unnecessary oil to your face. Because I love a matte look, my everyday foundation contains powder, and comes in a powder compact. Foundation that is water-based or oil free come in various shades for many cosmetics lines, so you shouldn’t have a problem finding one that is right for you.

I know you are anxious to begin working as a freelance makeup artist, but just in case you don’t have the funds to attend school right now, you can still gain useful knowledge and experience. I’ve been working as a freelance makeup artist for about 5 years now, and even though it’s hard work, I get to meet lots of different people and attend beautiful weddings. The most rewarding part for me is being able to “transform” the look of my clients. I just love it when they get excited and start smiling at the results.

The advice you receive from this article will help you get a descent start in getting the products you need, some clients to put in your chair, and to help you be more professional. Don’t forget there is more than one way to gain the experience you need, and I’m presenting some ideas and lessons that have helped me along the way.

When I first started I remember reading books about makeup/beauty. What helped me was getting books with color pictures to demonstrate the techniques, and with detailed writing. Some books contain content that is very vague, so it’s difficult to tell what is being done to the model’s face, which is why detail is so important. Also, try to be diverse about the types of books you read. I read books about mature beauty, Asian beauty, and Latina beauty because I wanted to be aware of certain concerns those groups may have. Great places to get books are from online bookstores and the local library.

If you have the extra funds I totally recommend attending a seminar from a professional (or a celebrity) makeup artist. This is a great opportunity to help you network with other freelance makeup artists, and to see the makeup application process through someone else’s eyes. It will help you improve your own work because you will receive some fresh ideas and information about great cosmetic products that are on the market.

Some items that you will need before getting started as a freelance makeup artist are a makeup case, makeup brushes, sample testers, a director’s chair, and makeup of course. A great place to purchase these items would be Ebay, or your local beauty supply. The makeup case I use has wheels with an extended handle, and fold-out compartments. I’ve used it for all of my assignments, and I’ve had no problems traveling with it. In regards to makeup brushes, make sure you opt for a set that isn’t too expensive, and will last a while – preferably sable or squirrel. Some examples of sample testers are individual mascara wands, lipstick applicators, and spatulas. These are so important to have because you want to prevent the transfer of bacteria from one client to the next. Pencil sharpeners are essential too for lip and eyeliners. Use it to shave off the used portion after dealing with each client.

You will use a director’s chair when seating your clients. I’m tall, so I find it incredibly useful. It’s also easy to fold and place in the trunk of my car. When collecting makeup, always start with basic, very diverse shades and colors. This will help in case you’re ever in a situation where you have to mix two different colors to get the desired color you need. The brand you use is up to you, but make sure you have the basics.

Some other good pointers would be to start with family and friends first. When you’re first starting out, you’re going to make mistakes, so it’s easier to use people who are close to you as your guinea pigs. They’re a lot less critical, and I’m sure they’ll make recommendations on how you can improve. Also, expose yourself to other artists that have different strengths. I say this because every freelance makeup artist has a different interpretation of what a certain look should be. I’ve known makeup artists that were wonderful at dramatic makeup, stage makeup, and bridal makeup. The more you learn from different people, the more diverse your techniques will be, which will improve your ability.

Last, but certainly not least, be professional. If you have a scheduled assignment, please be on time. Know that the bulk of your business will come from referrals, so you want to leave a good impression with your clients. If you have a client that is getting married and you have to work on location, dress appropriately for the wedding. Always wear an outfit that is classy, but that you can easily move around in. I tend to do a lot of walking when I’m on location, so it helps that my clothes aren’t restrictive. Don’t forget to bring your business cards with you to every event. Always pass them out so that others will have your information and can contact you if they need anything. Have fun and good luck on your glamorous journey!

You may not have 20 or 30 minutes to spend in front of the mirror applying makeup because honestly, that is time you can use to accomplish another important task. I’m not going to encourage you to apply your makeup while driving because that is so unnecessary and dangerous. You never want to put yourself or someone else in danger for vanity’s sake. What I will do is tell you how to apply your makeup in 7 minutes or less, and the steps are pretty simple. This will give you the opportunity to leave home with a professional look without spending extra time in front of the mirror.

First, start with moisturizing your face. Make sure you have even distribution, and thoroughly massage the product into your skin. Always moisturize your skin before applying makeup to achieve a more natural result. A moisturizer containing SPF15 or greater is always best to protect your skin against the sun’s harmful rays. Next, apply foundation to your face. If you are using liquid foundation, place a pea-size amount of foundation to your cheeks, chin and forehead. Be sure to apply to your nose also and blend outwards towards the cheeks. Use the same approach with a stick foundation and cream-to-powder foundation, but this time you dab the product onto your skin and blend in evenly. Dab concealer onto dark eye circles or problem areas, and blend out the edges. If your dark circles have a green tint, opt for a concealer that is salmon-colored to neutralize the darkness underneath your eyes.

Using your favorite sheer powder and powder brush, you are going to set the foundation by using light sweeping strokes to dust on the powder. Don’t forget to cover the concealer to disguise it, and make sure your nose is covered thoroughly as well. Brush away any excess that may be left on your face. Next, you are going to fill in your eyebrows with a brow pencil or brow powder that matches your natural hair color. If you are using a brow pencil, light feathery strokes should be used to fill in any gaps you may have. If you prefer to use a brow powder, you may find that an angle brush is the easiest brush to apply it with. Again, use light feathery strokes when filling in gaps and defining the shape.

Let’s rosy up those cheeks by dusting some blush onto those cheekbones. Make sure you blend in circular motion up towards the hairline to create a natural finish. Next, apply your favorite eyeshadow and blend with a blending brush. When blending, make sure you use the windshield-wiper technique by moving the blending brush back and forth along the crease of the eye — this creates a much softer look. After that you can proceed with lining your eyes with an eyeliner pencil, and applying mascara to both the upper and lower lashes. Lastly, apply your favorite color lipstick or lip gloss to top of the look and put your best face forward!

Summer is here, and we are ready to go to the beach to get some suntan to look fabulous (as we think). As a matter of fact, there is no such a thing as safe tan, and unfortunately, more and more studies show that there is no such a thing as safe sunscreen either. You might think that sunscreens protect against skin cancer. Well, they do protect against sunburn, as for cancer…It depends.

Everything we eat goes to our bloodstream, everything we apply to our skin will be also absorbed into our bloodstream. Did you notice how many chemicals regular sunscreens contain? Studies show that the longer sunscreen chemicals are left on the skin, the more they will be absorbed into the body, and it means we’ll get more toxins, which is very dangerous for our health.

If we have a good immune and eliminative system, we can handle the extra exposure to toxins. Otherwise, we need to detox from time to time not to become a toxic dump. But what about our young children who have less well-developed processes of elimination, and have a larger surface area per body weight than adults? Do they need more chemicals in their bodies?

As for me, I don’t use sunscreens because I try to stay out of sun from 11:00am till 4:00 pm. and wear a hat or try to be in the shade. When my son was young, I didn’t let him be out in the middle of the day in the direct summer sun. People don’t realize that even if they use sunscreen, they still should avoid too much sun -everything in moderation is the best policy.

Here are some healthy tips on how to protect our skin from sun damage:

1. If we do need sunscreen, we have to look for better and healthier alternatives. Two nontoxic solutions are the sun blocking minerals zinc oxide (studies show that only clothing and zinc oxide totally block UVB and UVA rays) and titanium dioxide. They are supposed to be safer products. You might be interested in sunscreen products with micronized zinc oxide as the only active ingredient.

2. We can use oils from our kitchen such as Sesame Oil, Coconut Oil, Olive and Peanut oils as well as rich in cinnamic acid, Walnut Oil, Raspberry Oil, Avocado Oil, Pomegranate Oil, Jojoba Oil, Pumpkin Seed Oil, Aloe Vera Oil, Coffee Butter, Shea Butter. All of them have UV protection and damage repair properties and provide natural protection from the sun. You can find a lot of modern sunscreen products which incorporate many of these oils and butters.

3. We shouldn’t eat carrots, celery, parsley, parsnips and limes before we go to the beach. Studies show that these vegetables contain psoralens, chemicals that may make you unusually sensitive to the sun.

4. We shouldn’t use skin-care products that contain citrus essential oils, especially bergamot (Citrus bergamia). They might increase the skin’s sensitivity to light and cause skin discoloration or rashes.

5. We should apply a thin coat of yogurt, sour cream, kefir or aloe-vera gel to reddened areas to help reduce inflammation and cool and moisturize our skin if we did get sunburn.

Studies show that even if you use a sunscreen and don’t get burnt, ultraviolet light will still suppress your immune system. Choose the right sunscreen product using common sense and exploring your options - the one that offers least harm is the best. And never forget that an old fashioned way- a big hat, sun glasses and a shade from a nice large tree- might be the best natural protection.
